what would YOU prefer, girls? Diamond, or birthstone and diamonds? (engagement ring)?
I'm proposing to my girlfriend soon, and I'm considering getting a ring with her birthstone (ruby) as the main stone and smaller diamonds around the ruby. My thoughts on that are it's a little more personal than just a diamond. now my question. girls, would you prefer just a diamond, or a ring with your birthstone and smaller diamonds?
okay.. diamonds are traditional.. and the purists will want that. more modern and unique women.. we love our birthstone. or the stone for the month of the proposal.. the month you hope to marry in. yours and hers birth months mixed.. that is wonderful too.
remember, the other stones, they tend to chip and get beat up more often than diamonds. insurance against damage is needed..
congratulations!

a diamond is good for an engagement ring. Maybe buy her a ruby ring later on for her birthday or Christmas.

Personally, I’m not particularly fond of rubies (they’re my birthstone as well). I would prefer just a diamond. Trust me, no girl is going to complain about you slipping a diamond ring on her finger.

I think it all depends on the girl – if she wants something different or if she wants just the diamond. I like the idea of just the diamond with small diamonds. What if you did the opposite…the main stone be the diamond and then ruby’s on both sides of it…that would be unique!
Good luck and congratulations!

That’s so pretty. I would love to get an engagement ring with a ruby in the middle with little diamonds. (ruby is my birthstone too) I love that a guy actually considers making more of an effort to show that they love their girl.

I would prefer a birthstone and no diamonds. However many women will not accept a ring unless it has diamonds on it. To each their own.

Every girl is gonna have a difference of opinion on that one. But just to be safe I would stick with the traditional diamond engagement ring. I am just thinking long term. Like right now it may seem like a good idea but 40 years from now you may be looking at that ring and thinking I should have bought a diamond. A diamond is a timeless piece of jewelry that you cannot go wrong by. So good luck and congratulations.

Ruby is a very beautiful stone. The thing you need to remember is that if you run into a problem with a ring like having to have a claw replaced they remove all the stones to fix one claw costing you 16.00 per claw and there is four claws to each stone.I had a ring with 7 rows alternating diamonds and sapphires.Cost almost 300. to fix because of one claw.A main ruby with a diamond on each side would be nice.

You can’t go wrong with diamonds. Save the rubies for an anniversary.

Ruby is fine! It’ll look stunning!

Ruby and diamond sounds beautiful. Maybe you could get her a ruby necklace first and see how she likes that, then when you give her the ring it will match. Also lets you test the jeweler. I got a diamond necklace a few months before my engagement ring
My birthstone is diamond, so there were no tough choices there.

My birthstone is a diamond so I can’t help you out much there! If I did have a different birth stone, I think I would just prefer a diamond ring with no birth stone. For me personally, when I see a woman with a colored-stone ring on her left hand, I think "just a ring on her left hand." When I see a woman with a diamond ring on her left hand, I think "engagement ring." I want people to know I am engaged by the diamond ring on my hand, not wonder if the ring on my left hand is more than just a ring.

I have a diamond for the main stone, but I didn’t want a traditional ring either. I have blue Sapphires and diamonds on either side of the main diamond. I think its a great idea, depending on whether she wants the main stone to be a diamond or a ruby. You can do ruby accents with the main diamond as another option.

I think white diamonds are too generic. Everyone has one. I like your birth stone idea. Or you could also get a diamond in her favorite color. i would have loved it if my husband gave me a pink diamond ring when he proposed.

Almost every girl imagines their engagement ring as a diamond. However, if you suspect your girlfriend is the exception (they do exist) talk to her about it. I can’t imagine that you haven’t talked about getting married in casual conversation. You want it to be something she dreams of.

I would love a ruby engagement ring but you might want to run the idea by your gf, because a lot of girls are dead-set on having a diamond. You could make a comment like you know a guy who bought a sapphire engagement ring for his gf, isn’t that unique? and then see how she reacts.

It’s not because of the cost or anything, but I’m glad my husband got diamonds – because they are traditional and match everything!
Maybe a ruby ring can be a gift to her for a dress ring at some later point.

I think a diamond, but I’m not too fond of birth stone rings.

Little tip here.. diamonds are really not worth a whole lot in the real world. they have been built up as valuable and when you go to purchase one you pay out the nose right? The truth is.. diamonds are very common ( the value of the ring more than halves as soon as you leave the store). The diamond cartels have convinced us they are worth a lot and that diamonds are expected for engagement rings. This was no the norm until about 100-150 years ago. Prior to that, rings with stones were always used because they were more rare and valuable. Think of it this way. diamonds are like the tiny white flowers you always get with roses. A diamond ring in myopinionn is like giving her those, without the roses. Personally i would much rather have another stone. I don’t like rubies, which is my birth stone as well. What i do like areSapphiress.Sapphiress come in all colors, even multicolored. They are valuable and beautiful. Check out

you can even design your own ring. When youu propose you are telling her she isSpecial, make sure that what you give her makes her feel unique and valuable.

Experience, have you ever tried to sell a diamond ring?
that is a great idea! a little non traditional to a solitaire diamond engagement ring. rubies are beautiful gems. i would love a center stone ruby set with small diamonds to accent or maybe a 3-stone ring or even a ruby solitaire ring. it depends on your girlfriend’s taste whether she wants bling or simple. every girl is different and you would know her taste more than advice from any girl. good luck!…when you’re ready, visit diamonds of palo alto. if you’re not in the area, they can work with you and ship anywhere in the world…
