What is a good engagement stone other than a diamond or a birthstone?

She's not going to wear an engagement ring and a wedding on the same finger, so I want the wedding ring to have a diamond. But what then do I put on the engagement ring? My goldsmith recommends against an emerald (her birthstone) since they can be a real pain.

What are some good alternatives?

Garnets are traditional engagements stones in England and Europe; the traditioin dates back centuries and has to do with the deep, red color of the stone, though I can't remember specifically what it represents. My brother gave his wife an engagement ring with a garnet that they had found while gem-hunting in the mountains. She gets comlements on it constantly.

I just picked up my class ring. I ordered the June birthstone thinking it was going to be a smoky purple, but my stone looks green. What is the June birthstone's actual color supposed to be?

I would say it depends on how many people are in your family. If there is an uneven amount without you then i would say add your name so the ring would be even on both sides. I personly think it would look better even on both sides. Also, if there are alot of people in your family, you might not want a huge ring. I think its really cute. If you have three kids and your husband it would look cool or 1 kid and your husband but if you have 2 kids and your husband i would add your name. Have fun with it! It would be cool to have your name.

The Magic of Gemstone Rings

The first rings that were made did not have any gemstones at all. These were silver, gold or copper rings in a flat or rounded style.  The belief in the magic of gemstones eventually led to including them in rings.  Today’s rings are not only beautiful but downright magical.
